Concrete Finisher


Concrete finishers must be capable of working in all phases of concrete product contract completion, including but not limited to, site preparation, demolition and removal of existing structures, form fabrication, and erection, initial pour distribution and shaping, concrete finishing and form removal.


  • Ability to work from plans, specification sheets or shop drawings, with or without supervision, as required.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools to assist with form fabrication and erection, where required.
  • Ability to perform required manual material handling to lift and distribute concrete mixes of various weights, volumes and viscosity.
  • Ability to lift up to an estimated 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work mix material to proper hydration and density to form and shape concrete products as required by contract specifications.
  • Ability to use power vibratory or manual tools to properly distribute and pack mix materials within forms.
  • Ability to use shovels, rakes, trowels, and other hand and power tools to shape, set, and complete mix materials.
  • Ability to complete finished concrete products of sufficient shape, dimensional accuracy and surface quality to meet and pass applicable public and private sector inspection requirements.
  • Ability to create desired surface finishes for various concrete products.
  • Ability to use hammers with impact head weights up to 16 pounds.
  • Adequate range of motion and ability to perform general concrete finishing tasks, including necessary squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and turning as required.
  • Ability to use hand-held power mixers.
  • Ability to remove, alter, reshape and destroy existing structures and their appendages to facilitate the placement of forms.
  • Ability to use abrasive wheels, power saws, masonry cutting saws and other hand-held power tools to perform asphalt and or masonry cuts.
  • Ability to perform and meet the essential job functions and requirements of the concrete carpenter/formsetter and concrete laborer positions when necessary. See written job descriptions for further details.
  • Ability to meet weekly attendance requirements often averaging 8 to 12 hours per day, with normal start and stop times varying with job site needs.
  • Ability to meet other attendance requirements, including overtime hours, weekend work, holiday work, night work, and shift assignments as necessary.
  • Ability to withstand various environmental conditions, including but not limited to, normal summer outside temperatures with a heat index occasionally in excess of 100 degrees, the combined effect of heat and humidity during outside summer work, possible low winter outside temperatures, and routine rain.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other workers at and around job sites.
  • Ability to walk and maneuver on even and uneven surfaces at the plant and construction sites.
  • Ability to withstand various airborne particles located at and outside construction sites, including dust, sand, dirt and pollen.
  • Ability to withstand various gases, vapors and fumes within acceptable OSHA/EPA limits produced by construction equipment, solvents and asphalt located at outside construction sites.
  • Ability to withstand various skin irritants within acceptable OSHA/EPA limits, including but not limited to petroleum products, asphalt and cleaning solvents.
  • Ability to perform and timely and productively execute tasks and assignments.
  • Ability to withstand loud and continuous noises from various construction equipment within acceptable OSHA limits.
  • Ability to work effectively with fellow workers and the public.
  • Compliance with safety rules, including the use of personal protective equipment as required.
  • Ability to set up barricades and/or traffic control devices to establish lane closures, as necessary.


  • Attendance at staff and safety meetings.
  • Ability to shovel, sweep and perform general “housekeeping” at and around work areas.
  • Possession of a valid and current Florida driver’s license.
  • Ability to assist in the flagging and signaling of traffic at and around construction sites.
